Disney's Top Five Princesses

Throughout Disney's expansive movie collection, it has developed a number of princesses in its storylines that has become dear to people's hearts. Picking just a handful for a list is quite a task. Through an analysis of the combination of popularity, impact, sales and movie reviews, this list pulls up five princesses almost anyone will recognize.
5. Ariel, from "The Little Mermaid"
This underwater redhead combined the appeal of rebelling against restrictive authority with the draw of giving up everything she could at a chance for love. Ariel was a dreamer, an explorer, an archaeologist, a romantic and a free spirit. She is one of the two princesses in this list that started a spin-off series on the Disney Channel, but the series was relatively short-lived.
Out of all of the top five princesses, she is certainly the most musically inclined. Even though every Disney movie features a good amount of musical numbers, much of the first half of the movie is spent with Ariel singing to highlight the sacrifice she makes in giving up her voice.
Without the huge success of "The Little Mermaid," two of the princesses in this list might not even have made it into theaters. She might be at the bottom of this top five, but with stiff competition, it is no small achievement.
4. Belle, from "Beauty and the Beast"
It takes a person with a truly pure heart to look through the exterior of a person and see the prince within the monster. That is the main quality that elevates Belle to the top tier of Disney princesses. Belle also manages to capture the hearts of those who serve the Beast, making her one of the only princesses to show off her leadership potential.
For some reason, Belle simply does not have the draw of the other princesses. This might be due to her brown hair and eyes, which makes her famous ballroom gown the primary way of identifying her from any other similar character.
3. Jasmine, from "Aladdin"
The odd one of the bunch, Jasmine was actually born a princess. Despite her prestigious birth, she can be related to fairly easily. She is a bird in a cage, like so many young girls are: beautiful, ready to go out and explore, but kept locked away from the outside world. She fights to keep herself from being married off to a suitor looking to gain the prestige of marrying a princess and only falls in love when someone truly compatible with her appears.
Her clothes are amazing throughout the original movie, its sequels and its animated series. Her exotic appeal makes her stand out, and her fiery attitude and snappy retorts give some heat to the princess line-up.
2. Snow White, from "Snow White and the Seven Dwarves"
The oldest princess on the list by date of the film's release, Snow White has aged wonderfully. Many characters released now might be forgotten in a couple of years, but Snow White has been going strong since before World War II. The timeless fairytale-turned-movie has been shown, remade, re-mastered, re-released and given more special editions than almost any other Disney movie.
Snow White is so pure and innocent that animals flock to her and sing, the dwarves take her in without much fuss and she trusts even the old hag who comes around giving out apples. Her innocence makes her vulnerable, but she earns her right to a princess crown when a kiss brings her back from what seems like death.
1. Cinderella, from "Cinderella"
The story of Cinderella has everything that could possibly appeal to a hard working young girl. Cinderella is underappreciated by her cruel stepmother and two stepsisters despite the fact that she does the work of a maid and housekeeper. The only friends she has in the world are a few animals, until one magical evening when she gets to be a princess for the night. Before she can run away for the night, she captures the heart of the prince so completely that he embarks on a search for her. Even then, she continues to prove that you just cannot keep a good person down as she fights her stepmothers' efforts to keep her from the prince.
With a strong work ethic, blonde hair and sparkling white outfit, Cinderella leaves no doubt in people's mind that she is a princess when they see her. This sits her right at the top of the pinnacle of Disney's foremost princesses.
